Student Parking Information:

  • Students eligible for parking must register their vehicle and purchase a parking permit at the start of each academic year.
  • Upperclass students may bring cars to the University, however, parking spaces for students residing on the River Campus are limited.
  • Parking for resident students is offered by lottery to those who pre-register (first-year students are not eligible for the lottery and cannot bring a car to campus). Priority is by class year. It is possible that all permits may be awarded before all requests are fulfilled. As an alternative, many resident students use the University’s free shuttles and RTS bus service to go between University properties and community activities.
First-Year Students

First-year students living on campus are not eligible for a parking permit.

Off-Campus Students

Students living off campus are offered commuter parking permits and cannot keep their vehicle overnight.

Resident Students

Resident student permits are issued with student class seniority taken into consideration. Resident students may park 24/7.

Special Use Permits for Housing Areas

Special use permits for housing areas (University Park, Whipple Park, & Goler House) are only good for the area specified and are not valid in any other area.

Graduate Students/Commuter Students

If you choose to park on River Campus, a valid parking permit must be displayed on your vehicle at all times. Graduate and undergraduate commuter student parking permits may be purchased at the Parking Management Center (70 Goler House). The permits are lot-specific and sold based on lot availability.

During the academic year, students studying abroad or who no longer need parking on campus may return their parking permit to the Parking Management Center to recover pro-rata allocation of the cost of the permit.

Graduate Students & Postdocs on Appointment Living Off Campus & Receiving Stipends

Graduate students and Postdocs on appointment living off campus who are receiving stipends and interested in parking in Zone 3 South on River Campus must complete the registration process.

This applies to the following job codes: 6000, 6001, 6002, 6003, 6004, 6006, 0093, 0094, 0095.

When registration opens in the spring, eligible students will receive a letter from Parking. Students who have missed the annual registration period can visit the Parking Office to purchase a permit.

Students living in Whipple Park, Goler House, or University Park will be assigned permits associated with their housing. The University’s Blue Line shuttle offers service between these housing areas, River Campus, and the Medical Center.

Students Working at the Medical Center

Students working at the Medical Center should call or visit the Parking office for more information.

Awarding of Permits

Resident Students

Parking Lots: Brooks Crossing, Riverview, Valentine, Wilson North

Parking space is limited and permits are sold via lottery on a first-come, first-served basis by class year and preference. Near the end of the academic year, resident students will receive a letter via their University email with instructions for joining the lottery and adding their name to parking lot waitlists. All permits are awarded from these lists.

Permits are awarded to seniors first, then juniors, and then sophomores. Parking is not available for resident first-year students. If awarded a parking space, you will receive a time-sensitive offer via your University email address, with the option to accept or decline the offer. You must log in to your parking account to purchase your awarded permit by the expiration date on your letter. If you have outstanding parking citations, you will not be eligible for a permit.
